Horror Awaits: Naomi Ackie in Talks for Lead Role in DC’s 'Clayface'
- Jul 28, 2025
Many of us know Naomi Ackie for her stunning roles in movies like "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" and the Whitney Houston biopic, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." Well, this rising star may be on the cusp of another landmark role: the female lead in no other than DC Studios' forthcoming horror movie, "Clayface."
As confirmed by Variety, DC Studios is in preliminary talks with Ackie about her potential new part. If you think it's just another superhero movie, think again! The film, slated for a spooky September 11, 2026 premiere, delves into the story of a Batman villain, who initially lived the life of an actor. Bacterial and desperate following a transformative facial disfigurement, he resorts to an overly experimental medical procedure, because, well, that's what people do in comic book movies, right?
Though he might have hoped for a Hollywood makeover, our tragic hero winds up with a body made of clay, capable of morphing into any appearance. Talk about job perks!
The brains behind the horror flick? That would be writer Mike Flanagan and director James Watkins. With “Clayface,” DC Studios is looking beyond the usual spandex-clad heroes, using genres not often associated with comic book adaptations and - brace yourselves - smaller budgets!

Coming hot on the heels of DC’s “Superman” and “Supergirl” featuring Milly Alcock, "Clayface” will be the third movie by the studio that's "meticulously trying to shake things up a bit," as its filmmakers claim. And hey, “The Batman” filmmaker Matt Reeves, alongside Lynn Harris, won't sit this one out - they're on deck through their company, 6th & Idaho Productions.
While we watch this space, remember Ackie isn't leaving the limelight anytime soon. She will be starring next to the likes of Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley in the Netflix film “The Thursday Murder Club”. So grab your popcorn and set your movie night calendar, folks!
We never thought we'd say we're excited to see a villain come to life, but with Naomi Ackie in possible line? All bets, it seems, are off. Deadline, you were right on the money with the casting prediction. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
