Can't get enough of spellbinding, boundary-breaking journalism? Music Box Films has got some exciting news for you! They've just snapped up North American rights for the documentary “Steal This Story, Please!".

Already making a splash in numerous theatres and cashing in close to a cool million, you'll soon be able to catch this gripping gem on all major digital platforms starting Oct. 20. Too cool to be a movie nerd? Don't fret, a DVD and Blu-ray release are also on the cards. We can't spill the beans on the physical media release date just yet – stay tuned for the juicy details!

Map out your calendar for 8 p.m. ET on Oct. 13 and join in for the online spectacle that is the live screening of this documentary. Amy Goodman will be gracing us with her presence, alongside esteemed directors Tia Lessin and Carl Deal of “Trouble the Water,” “Citizen Koch,” and “The Janes” fame.

Remember that time back at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival when this documentary, exploring Goodman's trailblazing work, clapped up a storm? Well, it further scorched a successful trail, pocketing audience awards at 11 festivals! Audience adoration buzzed from Mill Valley to Palm Springs to Santa Barbara and Woodstock.

This gripping piece began its astonishing journey at New York’s IFC Center. Its electrifying debut earned over $30,000 and held sway for an impressive 12 weeks. Igniting audience passion in over 50 markets, it was lauded as one of the year’s top non-fiction releases.

Music Box Films is maintaining the rollicking momentum, snagging rights for theatrical and home entertainment for the compelling masterpiece. Expect the distributor’s take on Goodman's engaging story to be rollickingly charming, notably captivated by her ability to navigate a media landscape transformed by tech, corporatism, and political pressure on the press.

The film conjures an urgent narrative interspersed with humor. Carl Deal remarked that they were thrilled with Music Box Films’ role in expanding the far-reaching appeal of the film, especially during a time when freedom of expression is under attack.

Tia Lessin chimed in, adding that Goodman’s emphasis on independent and non-compromising journalism is a cornerstone for democracy – something this film embodies. She shared excitement over joining forces with Music Box Films to bring the film to home audiences, emulating the free spirit and editorial liberty characterizing Goodman's work.

Music Box Films, on their earlier collaboration with the docu-triumvirate, said, "This documentary had the highest-grossing week of any film in the history of the Music Box Theatre in Chicago!"

Michael Tuckman echoed this sentiment, asserting the film’s success is counterevidence to the notion of limited theatrical prospects for political documentaries. He lauded the firm belief held by Carl and Tia in theaters as platforms for engaging and inspiring audiences.

Produced by Carl Deal and Tia Lessin, this documentary is backed by the creative minds including Jane Fonda, Rosario Dawson, and Tom Morello among others. Brian Andreotti representing Music Box Films, alongside Ben Schwartz and Joe Tufano from Submarine, negotiated the sale of home entertainment rights.
