Two new films: 'Escape from New York' Reboot, Paddington 4
- Apr 17, 2026
Good news for John Carpenter's fans! His '80s classic, "Escape From New York" is getting a fresh coat of paint, thanks to the creative whizzes at StudioCanal. The production company made this exciting announcement at the CinemaCon, the movie industry's equivalent of the Super Bowl. What’s better than a bunch of execs dressed to the nines, dropping napalm-grade news bombs in Vegas, right?
While they were tight-lipped about further details on the 'Escape from New York' rebirth, the mere hint of it happening has set everything abuzz. Just imagine the edge-of-your-seat thrill-ride that was the original movie making a comeback. For those who need a memory jog, the original movie starred the enduringly cool Kurt Russell. He played Snake Plissken, a former special forces soldier turned jailbird. His high-stakes mission? To rescue the US President after he's held hostage - a mission that comes with the promise of a pardon. Now that's an offer hard to refuse!
The fun didn't stop there at the CinemaCon. The StudioCanal execs also revealed a fourth installment in the ever-adorable 'Paddington' children’s franchise is on the way. No details were given about this next chapter, but they did tease the involvement of ‘world-renowned comedy writers' on the script. Who they are, though, remains a mystery to decode for another day.
If you aren't familiar with the 'Paddington' series, it’s based on the charming story by British author Michael Bond. It’s all about a marmalade-loving bear that everyone adores. The previous three films, starting from 2014, have raked in a combined total of a whopping $730 million at the global box office.

StudioCanal certainly means business by not just developing, but also fully funding these films. Sony plays its part by distributing the films in selected territories, including the United States.
More juicy announcements at the event included a remake of the 1981 horror movie “The Howling,” a movie adaptation of the best-seller “The Midnight Library,” and a heart-pounding thriller titled “The Mannequin” set to feature Melissa Leo. The presentation closed with some exclusive peeks at upcoming features such as “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom,” Eli Roth’s slasher “Ice Cream Man,” and the hilariously titled dark comedy, “Everybody Wants to F*ck Me.”
So, are you excited? The stage is set, and we can't wait to see what these revamps and new releases have in store. Here's to hoping they live up to the hype!
