Powerpuff Glory: Classic Cartoon Trio Takes on the Silver Screen!
- Jun 26, 2026
Buckle up, nostalgia buffs, our favorite trio of tiny superheroes - Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup - get ready to color the big screen with their super-personalities! Warner Bros. Pictures Animation spilled the beans about a Powerpuff movie brew on Monday at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival hosted in France.
While insiders did concur that the rumor of a "Powerpuff Girls" movie bubbling up at the studio, they clarified there's no full green light yet. So, we can blend "excitement with a dash of suspense" in our fan cocktails, for now.
Since the project didn't get the final nod, the plot details are as elusive as Mojo Jojo’s evil plans. Fans of the original Cartoon Network series will remember the fantastical lore– Three young superhero girls, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, born out of a scientific experiment gone adorably right. Tirelessly defending their city, Townsville, the Powerpuff girls used a perfect blend of sugar, spice, and Chemical X, gifted to them accidentally by their creator, Professor Utonium, to kick villainous butts!

The original "Powerpuff Girls" series, that launched in 1998, kept viewers hooked for a solid six seasons before taking a bow in 2005. There was even a big-screen adaptation in 2002, "The Powerpuff Girls Movie," which, unfortunately, couldn't jetpack it at the box office. The franchise also gave rise to a 2016 reboot and a live-action comeback that, alas, never saw the light of the TV screen.
In the meantime, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is busy warming up the audience with its high-profile theatrical release this November – “The Cat in the Hat,” where Bill Hader lends his voice to the shenanigans-filled titular character. The animation bigwig has a solid lineup of exhilarating releases for 2027 and beyond, including “Bad Fairies” with Cynthia Erivo, the Christmas romp “Margie Claus” starring Melissa McCarthy, and the much-anticipated "Oh the Places You’ll Go," featuring Ariana Grande and Josh Gad.
