"Counting Miracles" – An Amazon MGM Studios Adventure of Heart and Hope
- Sep 10, 2026
Get the popcorn ready folks, because Amazon MGM Studios have announced their latest project, and it's one to get excited about! They've adapted Nicholas Sparks' bestseller, “Counting Miracles,” into a motion picture, with none other than Tyler Nilson of “The Peanut Butter Falcon” fame seated in the writer's and director's chair.
Our leading man, the dashing Alan Ritchson, steps into the formidable shoes of Army Ranger Tanner Hughes. This isn't just some run-of-the-mill road trip movie though. Hughes' cross-country journey comforts the families of fallen soldiers until a cryptic letter sends him on a path of personal exploration and family discovery. Let's just say, you'll want to stock up on tissues for this one!
This emotional odyssey takes Tanner to a scenic small-town, where he gets tangled up in a web of love with a single, doctor mother-of-two and a reclusive old man with a shadowy past. As Tanner's life entangles with the inhabitants' stories, he's forced into a self-revelation of his past, leading him to uncover who he truly is and where he truly belongs.
Producing this heart-wrenching tale are Ritchson himself under his Dancing Skeleton banner, Denise Di Novi and Margaret French Isaac of Di Novi Pictures, and Theresa Park, Sparks' consistent producing partner. Currently, both Dancing Skeleton and Di Novi Pictures enjoy first-look film deals with Amazon MGM Studios. Ritchson also has a three-picture acting deal, making us all excited for more!

Nilson is no novice when it comes to winning over both critics and audiences. His big break was the 2019 crowd-pleaser, “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” which he co-wrote and co-directed with Michael Schwartz. It swept the Audience Award at SXSW, earned a DGA nomination for Achievement in First-Time Feature Film, and was the highest-grossing indie release that year. Other notable work includes the 2024 hit “Los Frikis,” set in 1990s Cuba.
And our virtuoso novelist Nicholas Sparks? No need for introductions there. Books such as “The Notebook," “Dear John,” and “Safe Haven,” have grown into Hollywood award-winners with the films bringing in more than an impressive $750 million worldwide. Watch out for another upcoming Sparks movie, “Remain,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and hitting our screens Feb. 5, 2027.
So buckle up movie buffs, "Counting Miracles" is set to take us on a mesmerizing ride full of dramatic twists and heart-filling revelations! See you at the cinema!
