"Bobby Beauty Parlour": A Budding Friendship Tale Teased by Indian Cinema Maestros

Two Indian cinema heavyweights, Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap, are joining forces to champion a short film titled "Bobby Beauty Parlour." Set to steal the limelight during Friendship Week, this short film is a heartwarming portrayal of childhood friendships making a transition into a new phase of life.

"Bobby Beauty Parlour", directed immaculately by Shashwat Dwivedi, tenderly peels off the layers of an endearing friendship between Eelu and Manu. These childhood bosom buddies, faced with an impending end of a precious chapter in their life, savor their last moments together. They engage in light-hearted bickering, intoxicating banter, and shared siestas in their neighborhood's beauty salon, a testament to their refusal to let their childhood memories fade away.

Adding a touch of magic behind the camera and the pen is Janhavi Asthana, who wears the dual hat of being both the writer and the producer. The film is crafted in collaboration with Ranjan Singh and Kashyap, where Singh has skillfully produced the flick, and Kashyap, adding that touch of verve, curated it for the audience.

The combined creative genius of Ali and Kashyap is no coincidence as the duo share an old acquaintance tracing back to their student days in Delhi. Interestingly, this short film marks a unique collaboration between the two esteemed directors.

"Bobby Beauty Parlour" gives a voice to those moments of life that remain unscreamed yet leaves an indelible mark on our character, so aptly described, by Ali. He shared, "These innocuous moments give the film its charm and brought back memories of my hometown, my youthful escapades and friends that have left deep imprints."

Kashyap described the film as telling a “simple story, simply.” It’s about “friendship, dreams and coming of age", he said. He takes pride in Asthana’s triple role as producer, co-writer, and cinematographer, and beamed at Dwivedi's personal growth.

Singh, who shares a two-decade-long creative camaraderie with Kashyap, championed “Bobby Beauty Parlour” as a globally acclaimed short film. He underscored its suitability for Friendship Week with its heart-tugging narrative about comradeship, life, and its unnerving realities.

Adorning the silver screen are stars Adrija Sinha, Parul Rana, Saksham Raj and Preeti Kochar, marking their appearance at the stroke of midnight on Aug. 6, exclusively on the Oh Short Flips YouTube channel.

Dwivedi views the film as a tender portrayal of the overlooked fragility of childhood. Ecstatic about the movie's release on YouTube, he said, "The platform has taught me so much about making films. I’m thrilled to be giving something back." The young director expressed gratitude and awe for the helping hand extended by his favorite film maestros, and hopes for the film's worldwide reception to inspire audiences to reminisce their own friendships.
