Guess what's coming to HBO Max? The exhilarating box-office sensation "Backrooms" is making its way to your home screens starting September 25! This isn't just any film; it’s A24's highest-grossing beauty that trounced "Marty Supreme," introducing a whole new dimension of excitement.

The film stars the enigmatic Chiwetel Ejiofor of "12 Years a Slave" and "Dirty Pretty Things" fame, and the ever-so-dynamic Renate Reinsve from "Sentimental Value" and "The Worst Person in the World." The magic realization of the widely loved web series about liminal spaces comes from director Kane Parsons, with Ejiofor donning the persona of a furniture-store owner in deep therapy with Dr. Mary Kline, portrayed by Reinsve. The sensational script comes courtesy of the talented Will Soodik.

Owen Gleiberman, the chief film critic at Variety, showered praise in his review saying, "'Backrooms' as an atmospheric freakout, is extraordinarily effective," also lauding Ejiofor as "the perfect presence to have at the center." Gleiberman fondly compared Parsons' obsession for mood and his “cosmic sound design” to the one and only, late David Lynch.

What's even more spellbinding is the fact that Parsons crafted "Backrooms" when he was a mere 20-year-old. The film knocked it out of the park with a whopping $330 million gross worldwide on a $10 million budget. That’s right, folks! With an exceptional $81 million opening domestically, and an encore release in theaters on July 3, featuring an extra 15 minutes of bonus footage, "Backrooms" is undeniably a film phenomenon.

In a candid chat with Variety, Parsons expressed his ambitions for "Backrooms," explaining it was intended as a series going beyond the boundaries of this film. He seemed keen on not abandoning his YouTube roots despite the cinematic success. “For people who are into it, I’ve got a contract, and I got a hold at my end,” he added. So, it seems we are indeed not done with 'Backrooms' yet, a sure treat for all the fans out there!
