When Honeymoon Turns Haywire: Kevin Costner, Jake Gyllenhaal Head to Australia
- Mar 29, 2026
Hollywood A-listers Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal are swapping the glitz and glam for some Aussie outback fun, as they prepare to roll cameras for their new film, "Honeymoon With Harry." The scenic landscapes of Queensland, Australia, have attracted these stars and production is set to steam ahead in April in Brisbane and The Whitsundays.
The powerhouse combo behind hits such as “Paradise,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “This Is Us”, including Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, and Dan Fogelman, are the forces behind this Amazon MGM Studios feature. This movie is adapted from the beloved novel by Bart Baker, and may be welcoming Sarah Pidgeon to this star-studded ensemble soon.
Hold onto your popcorn, folks, because this emotional dramedy is set to take you on a wild ride. It revolves around a free-wheeling, impulsive groom-to-be, played by Gyllenhaal, whose dream honeymoon turns topsy-turvy, landing him on a deserted island with his soon-to-be crabby, shielded father-in-law, played by Costner. Watch as the film documents a thrilling journey of their clashing personalities, eventually transforming into an unexpected camaraderie. It's an island retreat like no other!
Here's what the directors had to say about their choice of location, “Queensland has everything we could hope for,” shared Ficarra and Requa. “We’re doing Chicago, the Caribbean, and everything in between - and that's just within arm's reach! It's got great crew and even better weather.”
Furthermore, producer Mike Karz, the powerhouse behind movies such as “Valentine’s Day,” “Blended,” and “Upgraded,” couldn't stop gushing about how the film's storyline perfectly complements Queensland's beauty. In his words, "We’re having a blast working with some skilled local talents and bringing this story alive under the Aussie sun.”

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney was thrilled about the blooming partnership with the studio. She expressed delight over being a reliable partner for Amazon MGM. The robust local screen industry, Feeney says, offers top-notch expertise, and the state's attractive incentives pair beautifully with its breathtaking locations and infrastructure.
For Queensland, it's not just about the Hollywood spotlight. The projected contribution to the local economy is an impressive AUD$51 million ($35.6 million), creating over 200 job opportunities. Queensland Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek pointed out the ripple effect of these ventures on local industries like construction, catering, transport, and accommodation.
"Honeymoon With Harry" is produced by Karz from Gulfstream Pictures in conjunction with Jennifer Salke of Sullivan Street Productions, with Fogelman playing a tripple role as a scriptwriter, director and producer. The Aussie government lends its helping hand through the Location Offset and Screen Queensland's Production Attraction Strategy.
Watch out for this latest addition to the long line of Amazon MGM productions under the Queensland sun, such as “Balls Up,” “The Bluff,” “Subversion,” “Voltron,” and an untitled Mike Thornton project. Time to pull up a chair and enjoy these stars under the southern stars!
