Pop Sensation Sabrina Carpenter Set to Star in New Universal Musicals
- Nov 12, 2025
Step aside, pop world - Sabrina Carpenter is preparing to make her big splash in Hollywood! The chart-topping sensation, fresh off her six Grammy nods for her seventh studio album "Man's Best Friend," is headed to Universal Pictures, swapping her mic for a film script.
She's set to be the leading lady in a novel musical flick that borrows a page or two from Lewis Carroll's wonderfully wacky brainchild, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." And guess who’s in the director’s chair for this ride? None other than the multitalented Lorene Scafaria, known for her writing and directing chops.
Carpenter will not just lend her acting prowess but is also poised to wear the producer's hat for this yet-to-be-named project. Lending their expertise are producers Marc Platt from Marc Platt Productions, and Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, bringing in their star-power from Alloy Entertainment.
The decorated singer is no newbie to acting, albeit on a smaller screen. She’s had notable roles in Netflix’s “Tall Girl” and the acclaimed drama “The Hate U Give.” But lately, she's been more about the music, and boy has she given us hits! This movie gig marks her grand return to the showbiz after her highly successful 2024 album “Short n’ Sweet.” Buckle up!

Industry insiders let slip that it was Carpenter who first put her showbiz savvy to use, pitching the concept to Universal back in 2024 with the project evolving and Scafaria joining the bandwagon. Scafaria, whose noteworthy work includes HBO's "I Love L.A.," "Succession," and the box office hit "Hustlers," is also lined up to direct the upcoming A24 thriller “Jonty.”
Not forgetting, Carpenter had previously wave the “Alice in Wonderland” flag at Netflix through her At Last Productions banner back in 2020, even before she shot up to be one of the biggest names in pop. Sadly, that project never saw the light of day.
Universal's senior VP of production development Ryan Jones and director of production development Jacqueline Garell will supervise the project, with Katie McNicol overseeing on behalf of Marc Platt Productions.
Throw on a pound of popcorn because this is going to be a wild cinematic ride helmed by some of the biggest names in the industry! Can Sabrina Carpenter make as big a splash in Hollywood as she did in the music scene? We sure can’t wait to find out!
