Cue the trumpet fanfare: Prince T'Challa II is set to roar onto the big screen! it's official – David Jonsson, the latest casting coup to emerge from Marvel's Comic-Con Hall H panel, will be donning the iconic Black Panther suit.

Taking "Black Panther 3", the highly-anticipated sequel, by storm, Jonsson is stepping into the substantial shoes of T’Challa’s son as he learns the ropes of kingship after his earlier kiddo cameo in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

But hold up – Jonsson's crowning isn’t the only news set to thrill fanboys and fangirls. Get this, beloved director Ryan Coogler is back in the director's chair, while Leticia Wright (you know her as Shuri) and Winston Duke (our beloved M’Baku) are reprising their roles.

Shuri, after the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman, who played the first Black Panther, took over as the film's eponymous superhero, showing us that sister truly is doing it for herself! Boseman's untimely departure due to colon cancer was a huge blow, but Coogler and the team have pressed on to keep the franchise's pride alive. It was in the bittersweet "Wakanda Forever" that we first met the next-generation of superhero royalty, T’Challa II, son of T’Challa and Nakia (played by Lupita Nyong’o).

Growing up before our eyes, Jonsson has recently flexed his acting muscles in “Alien Romulus” and the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk.” Wright chirped to Variety earlier in 2023 that the third installment was well on its way to our screens, while also expressing her team's need for a short breather. Quoting the superheroine, “We just had a terrific two years of bringing it out… We need to regroup and Ryan needs to get back into the lab, so it’s going to take a little while, but we’re really excited for you guys to see that.”

"Black Panther," rising from 2018, raked in a jaw-dropping $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. It also made history as the first superhero movie to earn a nomination for best picture at the Oscars, collecting seven nods and taking home three gold statues. The nostalgic "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," with its impressive post-pandemic $859 million worldwide gross, kept the momentum rolling.
