There's a new kid on the block, and she's bracing herself to wander the grand corridors of the iconic Plaza hotel. We're talking about Mae Schenk, who's about to gift us with the most delightful mischief by playing Eloise in the live action film based on our favorite, whimsical young girl from the children's book.

Netflix, our faithful entertainment provider, has snagged the rights to this delightful project, which has been simmering in the development stove since 2020. Ryan Reynolds, our favorite wise-cracking Hollywood hunk, will join Mae oner the big screen as a brand new "sinister character" designed just for this version.

While the plot remains shrouded in mystery, Netflix lets on that this flick will be a "total original tale" inspired by the book series penned by Kay Thompson and brought to life with Hilary Knight's illustrations.

Guiding us through this new escapade will be Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creative genius behind "Gilmore Girls" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel". Along with Sherman-Palladino, Hannah Marks and Linda Woolverton are also lending their award-winning talents to co-write the screenplay.

"Honestly, who doesn't love Eloise? From her introduction in the '50s to now, she's a must-visit icon whenever families head to NYC's Plaza," gushed Hannah Minghella, Netflix's head honcho for feature animation and family film. "To be able to reintroduce her alongside two equally audacious and charming figures - Sherman-Palladino and Reynolds - is a sincere privilege and a fun-filled adventure."

Though we've seen Eloise grace the small screen in made-for-TV teases like “Eloise at the Plaza,” and “Eloise at Christmastime," and in the 2006 animated series "Me, Eloise!" on Starz Kids, this will be a fresh new spin on the beloved children's character.

MRC gained the reins to "Eloise" in 2019 and is the captain steering the movie's production along with Handmade Films. The project takes off from November, with several collaborations in the queue: Thompson estate, illustrator Knight, publisher Simon & Schuster and, wait for it, none other than Reynolds's company Maximum Effort!

"We knew Mae was Eloise the moment Amy introduced her," confessed Maximum Effort’s co-presidents of production, Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau. "The wit, spark, and mischief were all spot on! We can't wait to unveil her magic with our partners at MRC and Netflix." Talk about a grand introduction! So buckle up, folks, a larger than life Eloise adventure is coming to your screens soon.
