Lights, Camera, Emotion! 'My Own Last Supper' Begins Production
- Dec 9, 2025
Roll out the red carpet and pop your popcorn, because Matta Cinema Production and Ruang Basbeth Bercerita have set the wheels in motion for a heart-touching tale called 'My Own Last Supper'. This beautiful family drama is steered by Ismail Basbeth, the same maestro behind the much-acclaimed 'Sara', which rocked its world premiere at Busan back in 2023.
Set the scene: it's at the Busan’s Asian Content & Film Market, where 'My Own Last Supper’ made its first grand appearance. Mere months later, right in the hubbub of the ongoing Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival and the lively JAFF Market, our promising feature hit 'action!' for its 15-day shooting spree, starting on Nov. 27.
As the movie reels unspool, we meet Encek, a 76-year-old widower, standing at the cusp of the sea. He's heading one last family dinner that unveils a treasure of emotions, love notes, hard-hitting losses and hurtful scraps from generations past while summoning the courage to reunite with his deceased wife at the ocean's edge. Through Encek’s tale, we take an intimate dip into the evolution of life and identity within a Chinese-Indonesian family at key moments in history-the swinging 60s, disco-licious 70s, and tumultuous 98-echoing their national traumas and historical violence in the background.

The film's crew skillfully weaves the fabric of four crucial eras - 1960, 1970, 1998 and 2017 - from humble shop floors to homey interiors. Overseeing this visual narrative is none other than the accomplished Ong Hari Wahyu, alongside avid art buff Edy Wibowo - they were the stars of the 2025 Bandung Film Festival. Flank them with decorated costume queen Retno Damayanti and resident makeup magician Faradila; you have a creative quartet set to dazzle!
In front of the lens, we find Nicholas Anderson taking on the role of young Encek and Jessy Davita embodying the youthful Encim. During the 2025 JAFF Market fanfare, the actors sweetened the deal by handing out red-wrapped tamarind candies, a charming symbol of love from the film.
The film set also witnesses a delightful reunion of Basbeth with Satria Kurnianto, the man behind the camera. Meanwhile, the film's producer, Chakalica Widyadipraja of Matta Cinema Production, aims to enchant the world with this captivating masterpiece by 2026. Brace yourself, folks - 'My Own Last Supper' promises a rollercoaster of emotions that's worth a wait!
