If you were flipping through channels on a boring Thursday night and happened to catch HBO's Nathan Fielder, host of “The Rehearsal," on CNN's "The Situation Room", you might have had a good laugh… or two. Fielder delivered a hefty dose of his signature comedic charm while discussing a serious and thought-provoking topic: airline safety.

As the second season of his HBO series spotlighted, Fielder has a theory. His opinionated punchline? Co-pilots often find it difficult to create a candid chat line with their captains in the ultra-intense cockpit environment. This lack of open dialogue might just lead to these second-in-commands to stifle their tongues, even when their gut tells them something is wrong. Fielder took this concept to the skies with a series of social experiments and capped off the season finale by nabbing a pilot's license. He then took charge of a 737 loaded with 150 passengers. Talk about commitment to a joke!

The FAA didn't take this lying down. Via a statement on CNN, the FAA gave a curt response to Fielder's theories: “The Federal Aviation Administration requires all airline crewmembers (pilots and flight attendants) and dispatchers to complete Crew Resource Management training.” They also tactfully countered Fielder's belief about communication errors causing crashes by mentioning their lack of supporting data.

And how did our comedian cum pilot fare against this rebuke? Fielder came up with an epic reply, calling out the FAA's reaction as "dumb". Adding a pinch of humor to his defense, he said, “Here’s the issue: I studied to be a pilot. I’m a 737 pilot. I have the training. The coaching is someone flashing you a PowerPoint that says, ‘Speak up if the captain messes up.’ They highlight some incidents, but there's nothing that makes it resonate emotionally.”

And just like that, Fielder managed to make serious quarrels with the FAA seem like just another day on the comedy circuit. Now, isn't it a treat when your daily news comes sprinkled with a dash of humor and satirical insight – all in the name of airline safety?
