The fiery sports drama "Christy" has debuted its trailer, brought to you by Black Bear. The film stars the talented Sydney Sweeney, who slips into the gloves of the legendary boxer Christy Martin, a celebrated member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
The star-studded team features Katy O’Brian, Merritt Wever, Ben Foster, Ethan Embry, Chad L. Coleman, Valyn Hall, and Tony Cavalero. The movie is helmed by David Michôd, who also co-wrote the film with Mirrah Foulkes based on a story concept by Katherine Fugate.
Sweeney revealed her transformation journey to Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival, where "Christy" made its world debut. To truly mirror the world-famous boxer, Sweeney said she increased her weight by 30 pounds.
To help her meet the challenge, she collaborated with a nutritionist. “I had a weight trainer, boxing trainer, and a whole array of protein shakes and supplements on my side. It was a constant eating frenzy, from Smuckers to PB and J sandwiches and milkshakes. And yes, I was burning it all off at the same because we never stopped moving. It was a Herculean task, but well worth it," Sweeney shared.

Variety's film critic, Owen Gleiberman, offered high praise for the movie as well. In his glowing review, he commended Sweeney for her 'true-note, game-changing knockout of a performance.' "Watching her in the ring, delivering power punches and flooring opponents with her devastating left hook is not only exhilarating but also enthralling,” Gleiberman elaborated, "When she is celebrating her victory, her genuine joy makes her truly a star."
The film boasts of a host of executive producers, including Foulkes, John Friedberg, Andrew Golov, Michael Heimler, Harrison Huffman, David Levine, Clementine Quittner, Ryan Schwartz, Nick Shumaker, and Brad Zimmerman. The league of producers includes Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Justin Lothrop, Teddy Schwarzman, Brent Stiefel, Sydney Sweeney, and David Michôd.
Get ready to mark your calendars! "Christy" steps into the cinematic ring on Nov. 7. But for now, catch the energy and excitement in its freshly dropped trailer.
