Ready your paws for applause because “Zootopia 2” just hopped its way to the top of the box office. The heartfelt animal buddy-cop comedy roared and thumped its way to a megabucks $156 million in North America and $400 million overseas. That's a staggering $556 million counted up in its international piggy bank in just one weekend. Tasmanian devil couldn’t spin its head any faster!

In case you're not impressed yet, this animated opus also kicked off with the fourth-largest global box office debut ever! Only the superheroes from movies like “Avengers: Endgame,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” could outdo that! Talk about a tough field. But the cherry on top, or should we say carrot, is that “Zootopia 2” now holds the largest worldwide debut record for any animation film. Ever.

Disney Entertainment's co-chairman, Alan Bergman couldn’t contain his race of elation, remarking, “The incredible response to 'Zootopia 2' reflects the worldwide charm it possesses and the astounding work by everyone from our filmmakers to our cast. It's a moment of gratification for Disney Animation and the whole Disney family, and a grand kickoff to start the holiday season."

For the box office which had hit a rough patch since summer, "Zootopia 2" revved it back to life like a turbocharged rabbit-mobile. With the splendid turnout and a plush reception, it provides a much-needed boost for Disney. The studio had tripped over a few cinematic banana peels of late with movies like “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” “Elio,” “Tron: Ares,” and “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” not faring as well as the studio would have liked. Now, with “Zootopia 2” and the upcoming "Avatar: Fire and Ash", Disney is set to reclaim their throne in animated awesomeness.

The sequel reunites the impeccably talented animators, Jared Bush and Byron Howard and brings back our favorite rabbit cop played by Ginnifer Goodwin, and the street-smart fox portrayed by Jason Bateman. This dynamic duo is once again on the case, this time, to track down a new reptilian rascal voiced by Ke Huy Quan, causing trouble in the city. The original “Zootopia” movie launched in 2016 to a resounding success, garnering over $1.02 billion worldwide.

Considering the cracking start, glowing reviews, and strong word-of-mouth, "Zootopia 2" is set to become the second movie of the year to hit the $1 billion benchmark, following the Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” in May. Comscore’s head of marketplace trends, Paul Dergarabedian puts it succinctly, “'Zootopia 2' has a perfect release date, built-in brand recognition, and a PG rating."

In a nutshell, Disney's "Zootopia 2" is setting records and having a hoppin' good time at the box office. Now, go grab your badges and get set for a wild ride at the movies yourself!
