As the curtains rise, it’s time to introduce you to "The History of Sound," an enchanting gay romance film that is catching rave reviews, with its two dashing leads, Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor. With a nomination for the lauded Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival this year, this silver screen gem has made quite the entrance.

Based on the heart-breaking short story by Ben Shattuck, who also wore the hat of the screenplay writer, "The History of Sound" gives a melodious yet haunting backdrop to a love story that transcends boundaries and time.

It's the early 20th century. A young, talented singer from Kentucky, Lionel (Mescal), nurtures his vocal chords on the soulful tunes of his father, sung on the front porch of their rural home. In 1917, he packs his dream within his suitcase and sets off for the Boston Music Conservatory. It is in those hallowed halls where Lionel's destiny entwines with that of David (O'Connor), a charming composition student on the verge of leaving for war.

Fast forward to 1920 and the duo spends a winter gathering folk songs in the Maine wilderness. Their goal? To preserve these heartfelt tunes for generations not yet born. The narrative takes us through Lionel's life; a European sojourn, a climb to roaring success, new relationships - an underlying search for happiness. Despite these changes, Lionel's inner compass often points towards his memories with David, examining the profound impact of their relationship.

Directed by the skilled Oliver Hermanus, known for his films like “Living,” “Moffie,” "The History of Sound" promises to take us on a cinematic roller coaster. The film is brought to us by producers Andrew Kortschak and Lisa Ciuffetti from End Cue, Sara Murphy from Fat City, Thérèsa Ryan-van Graan, Zhang Xin and Hermanus.

The wheel has been greased by Film4, Closer Media, Tango Entertainment, and Storm City Films, financially aiding this epic journey. Our film has an ensemble of executive producers, including William Horberg and Richard Lewis for Closer Media, Tim Headington, Lia Buman and Neil Shah for Tango, and Dennis Masel and Gabrielle Nadig for Storm City.
