"Klara and the Sun" Film Trailer Shines Bright: Sci-Fi Adaptation of Ishiguro's Novel
- Jun 27, 2026
Cue the lights, grab your popcorn and get ready to enter a dystopian sci-fi world. The sneak peek of the highly anticipated movie “Klara and the Sun,” is finally here. The exceptional Taika Waititi is in the director’s chair for this venture, adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro's critically acclaimed novel.
This compelling tale features Jenna Ortega in the role of Klara, an inventive robot whose function is to fend off loneliness. The robot finds herself in the care of Josie, wonderfully portrayed by Mia Tharia, a girl wrestling with a mysterious illness. Standing in as Josie's fiercely compassionate mother, Amy Adams brings depth to the emotional tapestry of this story.
But the talent doesn't stop there. We also have Aran Murphy, the promising progeny of the “Oppenheimer” star Cillian Murphy, and the delightfully eccentric Steve Buscemi, both adding to the cinematic magic.
Look who has the golden ticket to Ishiguro's world! Sony’s 3000 Pictures nabbed the screen rights to Ishiguro’s novel in a hot race back in July 2020. From then the spotlight fell on Dahvi Waller, chosen to artfully transform the pages into a screenplay in 2021. Ishiguro himself is on board as executive producer, making sure his masterpiece is in good hands.

Adding more sparkle to production are David Heyman of Heyday Films, Garrett Basch and Waititi, while Elizabeth Gabler and Aislinn Dunster keep a composition eye over the project for Sony’s 3000 Pictures.
The novel's unique narration comes from the solar-powered Artificial Friend, Klara, in a not-so-far-off future U.S. Recall the heart-rending adaption of another Ishiguro’s novel, “Never Let Me Go”? Here's hoping Waititi's treatment of “Klara and the Sun” earns equal fan approval.
When she’s not being a robot best friend, Jenna Ortega keeps herself busy. Her recent projects include the dark comedy “Death of a Unicorn” with Paul Rudd, “Hurry Up Tomorrow” - a musical venture by The Weeknd and the Sundance delight "The Gallerist” opposite Natalie Portman. Can't forget her hit Netflix series “Wednesday”. After a successful second season in 2020, rumor has it season 3 is brewing.
So, when can you book your tickets? Mark your calendars, because "Klara and the Sun" is scheduled to dazzle cinema screens from October 23. So, get ready for the ride, because this is one flick you won't want to miss!
