Just in! The stars have aligned, and we're taking one more trip through the "Stargate"! Yep, Amazon has given a green light to a new series in the iconic “Stargate” franchise. Martin Gero, the genius who cut his teeth on the original “Stargate” TV show, is ramping up a secret plot for the reboot. How fun is that?

Though the exact details are still under lock and key, we can reveal that Amazon MGM Studios is handling the production and the series will find its home on Prime Video. Marty (as we like to call him) got his television start on "Stargate: Atlantis," and he's beyond stoked to helm this next phase.

He shared, “Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on ‘Stargate: Atlantis,'. For five years, ‘Stargate’ was my everything - it's basically part of my creative genome now. I’m ecstatic that Amazon MGM Studios has handed me the captain's chair for this awesome franchise. To all the loyal fans – this one’s for you. And for the newcomers - BRACE YOURSELVES, you’re in for quite the galactic journey.”

Wearing multiple hats, Gero will be the showrunner, the scribe, and even an executive producer on the new series. And the fantastic team includes executive producers Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures and “Stargate” stalwarts Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich. Let's also not forget Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, the creative masterminds behind much of the "Stargate" world, serving as consulting producers. It’s a promising mix of old and new, if you ask us!

Nick Pepper, Head of US SVOD TV development for Amazon MGM Studios, said, "'Stargate' is a beloved juggernaut that has enthralled fans for generations. Together with our sizzling creative team of Martin, Tory, and Joby, we are thrilled to once again dial up the Stargate and unveil a fresh, exciting chapter for our global Prime Video audience, rich in legacy and full of future promise."

Since Amazon gobbled up MGM Studios, rumours have been rumbling that they've been itching to bring “Stargate” back to life, and quite rightly so! The original “Stargate,” premiered as a movie in 1994, starred James Spader and Kurt Russell. A major TV success, “Stargate SG-1” followed, hitting the screens for 10 seasons before “Stargate Atlantis” spinoff took over for five more seasons from 2004 to 2008. This interstellar tale has been winning hearts with two direct-to-video movies and an additional three TV shows, the most recent being “Stargate Origins” in 2018.

And here's a bonus fact to impress your friends: Outside of “Stargate,” Marty’s made a name for himself as the showrunner for NBC’s “Quantum Leap” reboot and the creator of "Blindspot," the NBC series starring Jaimie Alexander. His array of hits also includes The CW’s “Kung Fu” reboot and the limited series “Keep Breathing.” He's repped by TFC and Ziffren Brittenham. Looks like we’re really in for a stellar ride!
