Portrayed with undeniable appeal by Tracy Spiridakos, our protagonist Anna untangles mysteries every week while serving badass lines such as “Littering is a gateway crime.”

At heart, this is an old-school show with irresistibly cheesy thrills, a dash of romance, and charmingly goofy humor. Just like the classics, an unconventional blonde leads a diverse band of characters. Standout Comrade? Paulina Jewel Alexis portraying Ranger Zoey Bear Child, who reveres Anna as her beacon. Fresh from her tour-de-force in “Reservation Dogs," Alexis lends her character both a delightful sense of humor and a sincere embrace of her Indigenous roots. Fellow Indigenous actor Crystle Lightning adds more strength to this representation with her role as Frieda Dierkz, delivering dispatches while donning some fantastic glasses.

Background ensemble aside, our leading lady Anna remains at the heart of this drama, tormented by dreams of her husband's tragic demise. Having moved past her initial period of grief and leaving the Big Apple behind, she juggles a nosy psychiatrist sister's calls (Props to Tricia Helfer) while balancing life and love (handsome Cooper Levy) in Glacier National Park.

With Anna proclaiming she's "a cop,” she paves the way for an array of crimes to waltz onto her path that she inevitably cracks. Despite an evidently conscious effort to showcase Montana’s Indigenous community, the series falls slightly shy of envisaging non-white femininity, often depicting violence against women, with the narrative always centering on white victims.

But the heart of "Anna Pigeon" beats to the drum of inclusivity, a diverse set of eco-warriors, and the villainous mogul Jeremiah Paulson (played deliciously by Kim Coates). He's your standard land-grabbing capitalist and a reliable source of the criminal activity our heroine uncovers. If this alignment sounds good, then “Anna Pigeon” will be your new guilt-free indulgence.

Love-to-hate Jeremiah is a cinch, and rooting for our flawed, instinct-driven Anna is even easier. She enjoys her liquor and life in her own way, and the show never passes judgment on her choices, allowing her to be what male characters usually are: complex.

The vibrant Spiridakos ensures that her character Anna never fades into the background. Her captivating gaze sparks warmth and vulnerability, even as she emanates might - and yes, the camera absolutely adores her! She's the sun-kissed, occasionally wounded heroine who leads us through the journey, unraveling mysteries that while often predictable, are soothingly so.

"Anna Pigeon" isn't aiming to provoke complex thoughts, but it's sure to leave you content.
