The wildly eccentric world of the revolting Mr. Twit and his equally distasteful better half makes a grand dive from the pages of Roald Dahl's "The Twits" into the rambunctious world of Netflix animation. Our oh-so-ireverent narrator, brilliantly voiced by Emilia Clarke, takes a wild creative leap to feed the imagination of the cutest little bug-aloos who have taken up residence in good old Mr. Twit's facial thicket.

"The Twits," a delightfully crass cartoon for the ages, hits the sweet spot between gross-out humour and thought-provoking banter, cleverly designed to appeal to the mischievous pre-teens who relish juvenile jokes mixed into their daily servings of moral advice. What once was an idea for a sitcom has now flourished into a hilarious full-fledged feature - full of laughs, and surprisingly, love.

Roald Dahl purists may raise their eyebrows, as this chaotic reinterpretation by "Ralph Breaks the Internet"'s own Phil Johnston, certainly strays from the original path. Still, it conjures up a playful spirit reminiscent of previous adaptations like the whimsical "Matilda" and the downright fun "Fantastic Mr Fox."

There's more meat to this cinematic version of "The Twits," thanks to the larger-than-life renderings of our heroes, the pot-bellied Mr. Twit with a voice like gravel (provided by Johnny Vegas), and his wife sporting a dazzling mop of toilet cleaner blue hair (voiced by Margo Martindale). Johnston exploits the barebones plot of the original text to spin a new tale for our reprehensible duo. Packed with a virtuous twist that even the Twits can get behind, their story will surely surprise everyone.

Say goodbye to the endless series of revolting pranks that made the original Twits notorious; our versions have dreams bigger than dastardly deeds. They aspire to run an amusement park, affectionately named TwitLandia, where terrifying rides mirror the innards of a human body. The operative word here is terrifying, as the park looks more like a lawsuit waiting to happen than a place fun.

Meet the Twits in their Unforgettable Animated Adventure

Triperot, an American town with an admittedly odd name is the new stomping ground for the Twits. The quaint town is filled with an ensemble of weird and wonderful characters that thoroughly poke and prod at our infamous Twits. Guided by the spirit of Dr. Seuss' "The Grinch That Stole Christmas," the dynamic closely resembles that of the grinch and the ever-optimistic Whoville residents. Orphaned troublemakers Beesha (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Bubsy (Ryan Lopez) might remind you of Cindy-Lou Who, as they skillfully sabotage the Twits' dastardly plans, all the while the well-intentioned Mr. Napkin (voiced by Johnston) blunders in trying to find them a home.

Brimming with energy just like Nickelodeon or DreamWorks classics, "The Twits" is a feast for the eyes with its vibrant colors and unusual character designs. Illustrious musician David Byrne even drops in a few hilariously appropriate tracks. The devil's in the details here, laced with charm and humor, especially if you have a taste for the grotesque and scatological.

Even though most of the quirks in this movie sprout from the fertile minds of the creators, the overall tone remains loyal to Dahl’s original, politically incorrect approach towards children’s entertainment. Distinctive touches like dingy skin, scruffy hair, and a landscape resembling the fabled corners of a city akin to Detroit authenticate the Dahl-esque ambiance. It’s imaginative, expressive, brilliantly lit, and might even feel too pleasing for Dahl purists.

And surprise, surprise - beneath all the laughter and pranks, this quirky film hides a heart and some life lessons, slipped in delicately by Johnston. Here’s a Garcia Guffaw for you: Be sure to stick around as credits roll, or you'll miss a cryptic hint about the mystical land of Loompa - and that's not something to be missed.

So, gear up for some gruesomely delightful entertainment as "The Twits" invades your TV screens on Netflix, starting Oct. 17.
