K-Pop Dreams Meet Reality in Paramount's New Musical Drama
- Jul 26, 2025
Hold on to your hair color–Paramount is bringing the electrifying world of K-pop to the big screen! Treading into uncharted territory, the studio juggernaut has announced that Ji-young Yoo, the breakout star of "Kpop Demon Hunters," and singer-songwriter Eric Nam are joining forces in a K-pop themed music drama. Mark your calendars, folks - the film will be hitting cinemas on February 12, 2027. So, what's the film about? Picture a young Korean American lady throwing caution to the wind and potentially upsetting some apple carts at home as she audaciously joins a TV competition that's gunning for the next big K-pop girl group. Interesting, right?
And here's what's even more groundbreaking: The entire film will be shot in South Korea, making it the first-ever major American studio film to do so.
Behind this unique project is Benson Lee, director of "Seoul Searching," who's been steering this film ship since 2020 back when it was a concept at 20th Century Studios. Standing by his side throughout its journey was Michael Ireland, President of Paramount's Motion Picture Group, who played a crucial role in its acquisition.
Benson couldn't be more excited to bring his K-pop love letter to the big screen. He expressed in a statement, "This film is my love letter to K-pop - its energy, passion, magic, and the incredible community behind it. I’m deeply grateful to Paramount Pictures for championing the project, to our producers for their unwavering dedication, to our talented and dynamic cast, and to the legends of the genre helping us bring this story to life. This one’s for the dreamers."

Working on the screenplay is Eileen Shim, who took the reins after various drafts by Adele Lim, Elyse Hollander and Lee. The film's production is a supergroup of its own, featuring James Shin of Hybe America, Scooter Braun, and a formidable lineup from Epic Magazine.
But real-life K-pop idol Eric Nam isn't just singing; he's also flexing his acting chops for the film. This isn't his first rodeo, either. He recently dabbled in acting in the Bill Camp-led action thriller, "Transplant," and will be a part of the upcoming feature "The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender." As for Ji-young Yoo, expect to see her light up the screen, having already charmed audiences as the leading voice in Netflix's "Kpop Demon Hunters" and Lulu Wang's limited series "Expats."
As they say in showbiz, let's break a leg and aim for that global spotlight, guys!
