Retaining Margot Robbie's delightful glamour in pink and that magical scaffolding, a potential sequel for the billion-dollar diamond, "Barbie," is hanging in the Hollywood starry night, appearing potentially elusive for Warner Bros.

While David Zaslav, the big-wig CEO at Warner Bros. Discovery, has been handed two peas in a pod - Robbie and Ryan Gosling - with their hands outstretched to the sky, asking for richer paydays on the sequel, he's hesitating. "There was no agreed-on framework approved and then withdrawn," a Warner Bros. spokesperson put on the record rather coolly. Gosling, who scored an Oscar nod for his charming portrayal of Ken, has a financial upgrade of $20 million on his wishlist for stepping back into those plastic shoes.

Now, this isn't your typical Hollywood drama. Warner Bros., in an unusual flex, didn't make the "Barbie" power squad of Robbie, Gosling, and director Greta Gerwig, who successfully spun a feminist web around the beloved childhood plaything, sign up for future 'Barbie' adventures right away.

Greta Gerwig's house of ideas is bustling with anticipation. Alongside her partner in crime and husband, Noah Baumbach, she's cooking up a brand-new concept for the sequel. But, playing hard to get, they won't reveal the idea until their deals are secured.

However, time isn't on their side. Warner Bros. is scrambling to close these deals before Christmas takes the rights back to Mattel Town. If they aren’t able to seal the deal by that deadline, Mattel would have to start from scratch with a 'Barbie' reboot, signing up a fresh squad of filmmaker, stars, and an entirely new concept.

Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca, Warner Bros.' dynamic duo, confess to the conundrum: “We've tried to hammer out big offers to close the deals for the 'Barbie' sequel, but haven’t struck a deal yet,” they admitted.

Meanwhile, the studio has made several attempts over the past three years to win over the "Barbie" crew, all of which have been declined. The latest offer made history since it's one of the biggest ever proposed by Warner Bros. Sadly, no counter-offer has been put on the table.

Attempting renegotiation in this bewildering kerfuffle isn't new. CAA, the knights in shining armor, representing the power squad of Gerwig, Baumbach, Robbie, and Gosling, isn't straying from practice. When a sequel isn't part of the initial contract, a little wrestling match is common, just like in "Barbie’s" case.

The pink empire's 2023 inauguration raised the stardom bars for filmmaker Gerwig, producer-star Robbie, and Gosling. As the Mattel brand stepped into the spotlight of La-La land, they caught a huge wave of momentum. “It’s an amusing knee-jerk reaction for everyone to want a sequel right away. This wasn’t designed to be a trilogy,” Robbie told Variety.

However, being open-minded creatives, they haven't ruled out the possibility of more trips to the Barbie world. The prerequisite? Gerwig and Baumbach coming up with another magnificent idea. “Greta puts everything into her film. I don’t know what more could even look like. We want more films that have the 'Barbie’ effect,” Robbie owned up.

Now with Spider-Man 'Brand New Day’ shattering box office records, it draws parallels to a universe where that movie almost didn’t happen due to contract disputes. Warner Bros. must be hoping to strike a similar win with the "Barbie" sequel when it happens.

The deadline to kickstart a new “Barbie” movie drives in December. However, rolling out its production is still in the distant future. Robbie is stationed on the set of the “Ocean's 11” prequel, Gosling is stepping into Marvel's “Ghost Rider” galaxy, and Gerwig is about to promote Netflix’s “Narnia”. Regardless, LuckyChap stays as a trusted companion for Warner Bros., and the studio remains in sweet harmony with Mattel, further fueling the anticipation for the 'Barbie' sequel.
