Get Ready for The Storm of 'No Sleep Till'
- Jul 20, 2025
Imagine lounging by your pool in sunny Florida, occasionally listening to stern but routine crackly announcements of tropical storm warnings over your radio. Your day continues as normal - maybe you finish up a lap, blow dry your hair or feed your dog. But what happens when the storm warnings become less of an interruption and more of a chilling soundtrack to your life?
Well, welcome to Alexandra Simpson’s debut world in "No Sleep Till," where residents react to an impending hurricane with a mix of pure normalcy and sheer party spirit. Simpson, along with Swiss cinematographer Sylvain Marco Froidevaux, uses the streets of Jacksonville to frame her spectral party-goers against the backdrop of a looming apocalypse.
"No Sleep Till", which premiered in Venice and is gently unveiled into theaters this Friday by Factory 25, is a harmonious blend of vignettes that unmask coastal living and inevitable dread of climate change, magnified through the lens of an approaching hurricane. Simpson’s debut illuminates residents' oddly tranquil acceptance of a natural disaster, highlighting families that choose to brave the storm rather than flee - perhaps ignoring one too many of those overzealous storm warnings.
Embodying the loping rhythm of a hot Floridian summer day, "No Sleep Till" engulfs viewers into a sensorial journey. As you drift from one scene to another, fragments of chatter form a tessellation, piecing together intriguing narratives for each character - it's a fever dream you just can't shake off!

"No Sleep Till" splendidly weaves together three gripping tales. In the first, storm-chaser Taylor Benton - who, plot twist, is a real-life storm chaser - leads us toward the heart of the approaching maelstrom. Then we meet June, embodied by Brynne Hofbauer, a young woman who maintains her everyday life amidst a city which feels increasingly ghost-like. Simpson tugs at heartstrings by integrating the troubling reality of friends potentially separated due to erratic weather patterns.
The icing on the cake: the last story. Following budding comic Will (Jordan Coley) and his friend Mike (Xavier Brown-Sanders) as they navigate north to evade the storm and also try to grab that golden ticket to comedy stardom. This thread beautifully combats climate fatalism, highlighting resilience, dreams, and the might of friendship even in the direst circumstances.
In a world where natural disasters become the norm, "No Sleep Till" is an ode to those who persist, who continue to "do something" in their lives despite the circling storm. This may be Alexandra Simpson’s introductory venture, but she's walked in with a roar of the storm, presenting a magnificently balanced film.
