"Beam Me Up, Scotty!" - Starfleet Academy's Stellar Ride Ends with Season 2
- Mar 27, 2026
Pop those popcorns, Trekkies. Although Paramount+ is pulling the plug with the second season, the space adventure that is "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" goes out with a bang.
First beamed up to the Paramount+ platform in 2023, the show rocketed off into the stratosphere, scoring an enviable 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics described it as a thrilling gateway into the Star Trek Universe, but alas, it couldn't quite capture the elusive warp speed needed to garner a larger viewership.
A joint statement from CBS Studios and Paramount+ thanked the cast, crew, and the dream team of Alex Kurtzman, Noga Landau, and Gaia Violo for their passionate vision. It read, "We're incredibly proud of the ambition and creativity that gave us 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy'. It introduced audiences to a bold new group of characters and expanded the universe in exciting new ways." Praise aside, the second season will indeed be the show's last stand.
The show is set in the 32nd century, after the events of "Star Trek: Discovery." It gives us a glimpse into the lives of the first class of students and teachers at the revived Starfleet Academy, with acclaimed actors such as Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, and "Trek" alumni Robert Picardo and Tig Notaro front-lining the cast.

The torch-bearers of the series, showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, poured their hearts into a heartfelt letter expressing their gratitude to the "hundreds of hardworking humans who poured every ounce of their talents" into the show. They expounded on the joy of pushing boundaries of time, space, and human possibilities, in service of Gene Roddenberry's grand vision of the future - one of optimism, diversity, and respect for all life forms.
While "Starfleet Academy" prepares for its final farewell, fans can still explore the final frontiers as they await two more seasons of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", and the children's animated series "Star Trek: Scouts." The future of the franchise beyond these series, however, remains in the nebula of uncertainty. But never fear, brave explorers - Paramount is reportedly busy drafting a new ‘Star Trek’ movie, so our cosmic journeys are far from over.
So here's to the series to remember - "Starfleet Academy" – and its stellar ensemble of crew and cast; take a bow, you've given us light-speed chills and taught us the true meaning of living long and prospering.
