Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler to Star in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Musical ‘Octet’

Light up the marquee! Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, and Tramell Tillman have all signed on to show off their vocal chops in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s forthcoming movie musical adaptation of 'Octet'. Seyfried will dazzle as Jessica, Zegler will step into the role of Velma, and Tillman takes on Marvin.

The star-studded story continues with Sheryl Lee Ralph taking on Paula, Phillipa Soo playing Karly, Gaten Matarazzo as Toby, Jonathan Groff, with Tillman doing a double duty as Henry and Marvin, finished by Paul-Jordan Jansen rounding out the cast as Ed.

Brace yourselves for a tale of internet addicts gathered in a church basement where their smartphones get boxed! This unlikely group wrestles with their digital obsession, relying only on the good old-fashioned power, beauty and cadence of their own voices to navigate their tech-cravings. This film marks virtuoso Lin-Manuel Miranda’s sophomore directorial outing following the critical acclaim he received for his work on “Tick, Tick… Boom!” just last year in 2021.

Paying tribute to the mesmerizing production led by Annie Tippe that bewitched him back in late 2019, Miranda expressed his joy about the journey ahead. “I’ve been fanboying since my first viewing of Annie Tippe’s production, and Dave and I have been working on the adaptation for the past six years. Now ribbon-cut with Julie Oh, my consigliere in the filmmaking business since our 'Tick, Tick…Boom!' ride, the dream is becoming a reality.” He thanked his dedicated team at 5000 Broadway for their critical role in realizing the project.

The silver screen adaptation of “Octet” borrows from Dave Malloy‘s original, much-lauded musical. The off-Broadway masterpiece unfurled its curtains on May 19, 2019, at the Signature Theatre in the Big Apple, before bowing out on June 30. It also enjoyed its maiden West Coast production with a five-week showcase at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2022.

Producing the blockbuster will be Julie Oh, the new honcho of TV and film at 5000 Broadway Productions, John Skidmore for Best Kept Secret Productions, and 5000 Broadway Productions President Luis A. Miranda, Jr. Johnny Holland, Owen Panettieri, and Diana DiMenna serve as executive producers.
