Pour yourself another cup of coffee and get comfortable, because boy do we have some movie news for you. In a recent episode of "Daily Variety" podcast, Brent Lang, a maestro at Variety, tells the story of a triumphant weekend for Amazon MGM Studios – credits to its glitzy Ryan Gosling offering, “Project Hail Mary." Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Filmart scene is buzzing with talk about AI's growing influence in film and TV, as reported by Naman Ramachandran, Variety’s authority on all things Asian entertainment.

Brent Lang had a hard time hiding his cheer, saying, “Project Hail Mary" was a must-win for Amazon MGM, and win it did, indeed. Its $80.6 million box office collection not only stomped over the studio's expectations but also clinched the title of 'best opening of the year.' Was there any doubt about Ryan Gosling and sci-fi? "This makes it one of the star-studded openings for non-franchise original flicks,” Lang joyfully shares. Amazon MGM, a company that struggled for consistency and experimented with various genres, seems to have found its sweet spot.

Success tastes even sweeter when it comes with a backstory. Did you know that "Project Hail Mary" was instigated for MGM by the studio's prior film bigwigs, Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca? Now with team Warner Bros Pictures, this dynamo duo has been on a roll lately with fresh releases dominating the box office, and one even securing the Oscar best picture award for "One Battle After Another."

Moving over to our man in Asia, Naman Ramachandran shares insights straight from the Hong Kong Filmart. Amidst the hustle-bustle of 8,000 attendees representing all corners of Asia and significant representation from Europe, one theme stood taller: AI! Faster than a speeding bullet, AI technology is phasing into content creation and Hollywood could learn a thing or two from them. Ramachandran shared, "There's already a full-length Korean movie made with AI. Think about this - it's 80 minutes long and it's hitting the theatres in May.”

Jumping back to the photo, our man of the hour, Ryan Gosling, stars in "Project Hail Mary." Have you caught this blockbuster yet?
