Ah, there's nothing quite like the onset of autumn, a fresh pumpkin spice latte in hand, and a new season of intrigue and hilarity with the murder mystery mavens of the Arconia on Hulu's hit, "Only Murders in the Building." It's a heady cocktail of humor, star power, compelling storylines, and surprising plot twists, reminiscent of a grand Agatha Christie novel but with an irresistible dash of sitcom zest.

Adorned with a stellar cast that includes powerhouses Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, the series doesn't just play it safe but dives head first into a labyrinth of enigma and the unexpected. The show's sizzle isn't just because of its lead star's comedic timing but thanks to its bold narrative that takes viewers from the swanky apartments of New York into the nucleus of power, secrets, and danger.

This magical compendium of laughs and shocks opens its season 5 with our favorite trio, Oliver (Martin Short), Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Charles (Steve Martin) on the cusp of massive life changes. Oliver contemplates moving in with his wife, Mabel is now an external member of Arconia’s community while grappling with the changes, and Charles is on the hunt for someone special to jolt the last phase of his life with excitement. Echoes of the previous season's murder of cute-as-a-button doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) still vibrate, and when Oliver's wedding shrimp cocktails churn out unsettling evidence, Pandora's box is flung back open, throwing the team headlong into another mysterious whirlwind.

As the story accelerates, it's turbocharged with the arrival of a formidable trio of billionaires, delivered impeccably by Logan Lerman, Renée Zellweger, and against-type Christoph Waltz. This tech-savvy ensemble and a robot replacement for Lester strike a nerve, making a truly considered comment on the evolving digital landscape.

As laugh-a-minute as it is, the season grapples with numerous subplots. Among them is the unconvincing story of a pop star from Mabel's past, and the potential underuse of both Keegan-Michael Key and Jermaine Fowler, the latter battling for his job against a robot. However, watching film titans Meryl Streep and Dianne Wiest spar within the melee is a real treat.

Season 5 of "Only Murders in the Building" might feel stuffed with storylines and familiar faces, but that's the charm. It's a show that blends comedy’s biggest names and upends expectations with a new mystery each episode. Is there room for improvement? Possibly. But sometimes, a generous spoonful of comfort food-style crime caper is just what the doctor ordered. Tune in to Hulu today, September 9th to watch the first nine episodes!
